Evidence-bounded guide to the AffineDrift manuscript series, prerequisites, and reading paths

This roadmap is a navigation aid, not a completion schedule or curriculum validation. Reading time depends on background, proof checking, exercise depth, and whether readers reproduce the computational work.

Publication-State Key

  • Available: the canonical manuscript source and public chapter map exist at the reviewed revision.
  • Scaffolded: a notebook file and tutorial title exist; execution, numerical correctness, and reproducibility are not established.
  • Provisional: explanatory, mathematical, or empirical claims require the hypotheses and evidence stated in the manuscript and cited sources.
  • Planned: a desired artifact or validation step does not yet exist and must not be treated as delivered.

All four volumes are available, provisional research-development manuscripts. Their 40 mapped notebooks are scaffolded in notebooks/geometry_of_motion/manifest.json. The route audit does not qualify the books as complete courses, reference standards, clinical guidance, coaching guidance, or validated software documentation.

Choose a Bounded Entry Path

Control Theory and Robotics

Suggested order: Volume I, Volume II, then selected Volume III chapters. Readers should already be comfortable with linear algebra, ordinary differential equations, state-space control, and local linearization. The manuscripts do not replace primary references or application-specific controller verification.

Biomechanics and Movement Science

Suggested order: the Geometry of Motion overview, Volume III, then selected Volume I material. Inverse-dynamics, muscle-force, tissue-load, neural, clinical, and coaching interpretations remain separated by the evidence ladder on the Volume III page.

Golf Mechanics

Suggested order: The Physics of Golf, the learning-path resources, then selected Volumes I-II chapters. Introductory articles still assume basic mechanics literacy; examples do not establish player-specific coaching or equipment prescriptions.

Cross-Volume Study

Suggested order: Volumes I-IV, followed by application articles and critiques. “Cross-volume” describes breadth of navigation, not mastery or comprehensive coverage. Readers should check each chapter’s source, assumptions, and validation state before reuse.

Counts are derived from the chapter inputs in the four canonical main.tex files. Glossaries, further-reading sections, and nomenclature inputs are not counted as substantive chapters. A chapter’s presence does not establish pedagogical completeness, peer review, empirical validation, or notebook execution.

What Is Available Now

Known Development Gates

  • Execute and independently validate notebook outputs before changing any notebook from scaffolded to validated.
  • Add chapter-level web renderings only when provenance remains tied to the canonical manuscript source.
  • Add measured reading-time evidence before publishing time estimates or workload schedules.
  • Add audience-specific learning assessments before claiming instructional sufficiency or prerequisite waivers.
  • Keep book prose, software capability, empirical evidence, and clinical/coaching interpretation in separate publication states.

Citation and Reuse

Use the revision-pinned manuscript links on the individual volume pages and inspect each source’s bibliography. A source file being available does not by itself supply a complete citation record or license a stronger claim than the source supports.
